Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA) is an apex private sector member based organization mandated to develop and promote horticultural crops (flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and horticultural seeds) in Tanzania. TAHA’s goal is to improve the growth and competitiveness of horticultural industry in the country for social and economic gains. TAHA is a strong voicing platform, representing farmers at all levels, processors, exporters and service providers in the horticultural industry in Tanzania.
DUTY STATION: ARUSHA
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Identify challenges facing value chain actors particularly farmers and engage proactively with TAHA field officers (FOs) and other partners to ensure that technical challenges are well addressed. Responsible in mobilizing farmers into formal entities (groups, associations, etc.) while building their technical capacity to attain maximum production and marketing of their produce.
Develop varieties of Good Agricultural Practice manuals and ensure that they are widely shared with stakeholders.
Identify training needs, design and coordinate the implementation of technical trainings to TAHA Members from comprehensive to associate members and other actors.
Ensure partners coordination, capacity building in terms of training and networking as part of TAHA’s efforts to build a cohesive industry.
Promote TAHA standards and guidelines to partners and field officers.
Participate and provide the focal position in the development and implementation of technical projects in the industry focusing on standards development and compliance.
Full responsible in coordinating standards matters in the industry while promoting and implementing activities to empower farmers to understand and comply with national and international standards. Coordinate and oversee the Standards Coordination platforms such as Global GAP National Technical Working Group activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Advanced degree in Horticulture, Agriculture or related field
Minimum of four years’ experience in management of agricultural technical activities
Strong experience in Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), horticultural technologies and horticultural standards system
Ability to mobilize and coordinate ground partners
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
