Project Overview and Role

We are currently implementing over 100 projects with more than 2000 employees across 90 counties.
In Tanzania, Palladium supports the Dar es Salaam Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) to run the MCC/PEPFAR-funded Data for Local Impact (DLI) Innovation Challenge Project. DLI awards grants to Tanzanians (both individuals and organizations) who have creative ideas about how to use or combine data - including open data - in new ways to gain insights or empower people through access to life-changing information. The DLI Innovation Challenge also aims to engage, support, and connect Tanzanian innovators, developers, and solution providers to each other and to opportunities to make a difference in people?s lives. To support this goal of engaging and networking Tanzanians, DLI is creating an online community platform in which innovators and data enthusiasts can connect, share ideas, find resources, and grow their ability to use data to improve health and gender equality in Tanzania.
Palladium is seeking a Community Manager to manage the DLI?s online community platform and engage with innovators across Tanzania to share ideas and build capacity around data demand and use. The Community Manager should be a communications specialist with experience using both mobile and web-based platforms for marketing and communications efforts. S/he should be comfortable with data demand and use concepts, public health, and gender equality. S/he will report to the Palladium Project Director. The position is a part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) role with flexible hours. This position is open to local hires only. Candidates should be based in Dar es Salaam, although other Tanzanian applicants will be considered.
Responsibilities
Build awareness, engagement, and enthusiasm among Tanzanian innovators and entrepreneurs for using and sharing data
Grow community participation through chats, webinars, events, and timely responses to user inquires
Strengthen relationships with content creators through outreach, communication, one-time events (e.g., chats, hackathons), and online trainings
Apply knowledge of user generated content, social media, and content management systems to provide continuous quality improvement to the DLI online community platform to create a better user experience
Monitor and moderate community participation in online chat forums and user generated content pages
Research and post additional funding opportunities
Create and manage events designed to directly engage and enrich the community experience
Increase familiarity with a variety of social media platforms to identify new opportunities and platforms for outreach and engagement
Responsible for day-to-day administration of platform, chat forums, and responding to user inquiries
Requirements
Bachelors degreein marketing, communications, journalism, PR, business, computer science, or related field
3-5 years? relevant experience in marketing and communications
Fluent in English and Swahili
Familiarity with social media channels (e.g., Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Skype, Wordpress, etc.) and best practices for online/mobile communication
Proven examples of engagement on social channels and understanding of social media landscape in Tanzania
Love of social media; willing to experiment and innovate
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to handle/diffuse conflict
Self-starter, upbeat, highly motivated, able to work with minimal supervision
