Laboratory Manager - 1 Position

JOB SUMMARY
The candidate will manage Core Lab area (Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology and Phlebotomy) including staff planning and evaluation, budget planning, monitoring reagent stocks with input from the Head of Pathology. In conjunction with the Lab Management, The lab manager will ensure the development and implementation of a Laboratory Quality Pro- gram. This will include planning, organizing and supervising the Quality Management Systems. These functions should• lead to accreditation of ISO 15189 and JCI by SADCAS, JCIA or any equivalent body.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Lab Manager is responsible for working closely with lab management in implementing and maintaining a Quality Management System which allows for consistent evaluation and continuous improvement of Laboratory services.
Manages Core Lab areas (Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology and Phlebotomy) by providing leadership to the team to provide quality lab services in an efficient manner. Responsible for staffing, maintaining reagent stocks, in-house control of reagents, consumables.
Communicating frequently with MMD on establishing re-ordering levels, consumables and budget of this area.
Supervises the Hospital Point of Care (PaC) equipments by overseeing the evaluation and selection of technology for pac, validation studies, proficiency testing, in-service training and competency checks for staff performing pac testing, compliance of pac Program through QC review.
In collaboration with the lIMS Coordinator, uses Laboratory data to evaluate meaningful outcome measures. Coordinates and establishes QA Audits.
Establishes and maintains open communication with QA officer, hospital administration and lab staff in all aspects of Quality Indicators including the review of incident reports.
Ensures that tests are completed and documented according to schedule and providing rapid turn-around time.
Reports problems and discrepancies to the Head of Department.
Maintains safe environment in accordance with standards, policies and safety regulations according to ISO 15189 and JCIA standards.
Ensures compliance with the infection control policies.
Ensures Lab Information Management System is running efficiently and regularly liaising lIMS coordinator.
Prepares key components of Management Review Meetings with Quality officer.

QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• Degree in Medical Lab Sciences.
• Certificate in QMS training.
• Current 3-5 years’ experience with a leadership role.
• Well versed with QMS principles.
• Focused and detail oriented.
