The
Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational,
international development agency promoting creative and effective
solutions to selected problems that impede social and economic
development in parts of Africa and Asia. AKF-Tanzania is part of the
AKF-East Africa regional structure that supports programmes in Kenya,
Tanzania and Uganda. In Tanzania, AKF is managing a robust and expanding
portfolio of multi-sectorial initiatives that includes programmes in
rural economic development, health, nutrition, early childhood
development, education and civil society strengthening. In the health
sector, AKF’s portfolio in Tanzania includes projects in maternal, new
born and child health with a strong focus on community health and health
systems strengthening.
AKF
Tanzania invites applications from qualified and dynamic candidates for
the position of Senior Programme Officer, Health and Nutrition based in
Dar-es-Salaam and reporting to the Country Director.
This
position is part of AKF Tanzania’s core team that would provide the
successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to oversee and shape
the health and nutrition programming portfolio of the Foundation in
Tanzania and exposure to the East Africa region. The successful
candidate will be expected to take lead in the health and nutrition
sector and contribute to AKF-T’s strategic directions, programme
development, grant management, and learning and policy engagement in
health and nutrition. One of the key responsibilities will be taking
lead on grant management of existing health projects executed by AKF in
Tanzania which will include coordinating project planning and
implementation with multiple partner organisations.
Specific responsibilities include:
Fulfil
all grant management responsibilities for on-going grants/projects
including: coordinating workplanning and implementation of health
projects with multiple implementing partners; overseeing the development
of high quality project implementation plans, progress reports and
performance monitoring frameworks; tracking financial utilisation of
projects; identifying implementation challenges and recommending
solutions; and ensuring excellent, cooperative relationships with
partners;Provide technical oversight and quality control of health and
nutrition projects;Lead program development and resource mobilisation
for AKF’s health, nutrition and early childhood development portfolio in
Tanzania;Implement a robust learning system for the health and
nutrition sector that enables learning to inform policies, programme and
practices; andFoster productive relationship with key stakeholders
including partner organisations, relevant ministries and government
authorities, networks, working groups, policy forums, development
partners, donor agencies and civil society organizations working on
maternal, new born and child health, nutrition and early childhood
development.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in health, nutrition or related field;
- At least six years of solid experience working within the health system, public health and/or project management on health and/or nutrition projects;
- Experience of working with maternal, newborn and child health and/or nutrition programmes;
- Proven experience in grant/project management;
- Demonstrated capacity to write high quality reports for donor projects and analytical briefs;
- Programme development experience with ability to write strong proposals and responsive bids for new programming;
- Exceptional written and verbal skills in English. Knowledge of Kiswahili will be an advantage;
- Proven experience of programme and budget planning processes, including log frame matrices and monitoring and evaluation plans; good understanding of funds management;
- Management, leadership and communication skills;
- Ability to communicate with and manage relationships with multiple partners and coordinate activities;
- Thorough understanding of the global and national efforts on health and nutrition.
- Experience of working in Tanzania or East Africa will be an advantage
