CHIEF GEOLOGIST

Acacia Mining seeks to employ a Chief Geologist based in Tanzania. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and the role holder will be accountable to provide leadership, technical advice, mentoring and operational support that delivers best practice and improves performance in the mine geological and resource estimation functions and to provide technical advice for new projects.

This is a fixed term contract role, with the work roster being either residential or FIFO (six weeks on and three weeks off)

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Collaborate and provide advice to the mine geology teams.
• Ensure that mine exploration program objectives are met.
• Lead the annual Resources and Reserves processes and ensure the growth of Resources and Reserves.
• Support the Life of Mine (LOM) processes to enable the delivery of high quality LOM plans.
• Support the Head of Discovery with business development reviews on existing greenfields exploration and other reviews.
• Ensure that milestone dates are met for the delivery of resource model updates for all operations and orebodies.
• Establish internal and external audit frequencies and protocols for resource models and Resources and Reserves processes.
• Ensure that audits are conducted and that all agreed actions are logged on an action tracker and assigned.
• Completion of annual Resources and Reserves on time and to industry standards.
• Ensure that robust mine-mill reconciliation systems are in place.
• Audit the delivery of mine extension and GC drill programs, including providing monthly exploration updates (presentations) detailing scope delivered, results, costs etc.
• Provide support for any other technical audits as required.
• Ensure that appropriate document management systems are in place.
• Lead assigned projects and develop and implement business improvement initiatives.
• Provide functional mentorship for Graduate Geologists, Geologists and Geology Team Leaders, including:
o Conducting reviews and tracking progress of Graduate Geologists.
o Identifying skills gaps and developing realistic programs to address the gaps.
o Developing, implementing and tracking succession plans.
o Conducting performance reviews for team members.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Requirements:

• Tertiary degree in Geology
• Higher degree in Geology or Geostatistics will be an added advantage

Experience Requirements:

• At least 10 years’ experience in a Mine Geology role on both underground and open pit operations
• 5 years’ experience in:
o a leadership role
o Resource Estimation
o Gold mining
• Experience in multi-element deposits will be advantageous
• Competence and qualified for QP Sign Off is essential
• Experience in developing countries in Africa will be ideal

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (HSE) MANAGER

Acacia Mining seeks to employ an experienced Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager based at Bulyanhulu Mine in Tanzania. This role reports to the General Manager and the role holder will be accountable to develop, implement and maintain health, safety and environmental systems and programmes at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine Limited (BGML) that align to Acacia and industry best practice, regulations, policies and standards. Furthermore, the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager will provide leadership and advice to the BGML Leadership Team and to the professionals and specialists in the aligned functions. He/she will manage the delivery of major HSE projects onsite and ensure close alignment to program governance and project standards.

This is a fixed term contract role, with the work roster being six weeks on and three weeks off.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Health and Safety Systems and Planning
• Develop the HSE plan for BGML in line with Acacia Strategy & Policies.
• Develop and implement the necessary HSE systems to ensure legal compliance and support the HSE plan.
* Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership
• Promote, champion and drive continual improvement in HSE in order to create a positive HSE culture.
• Implement and manage risk management and hazard identification with line management.
• Ensure high quality incident / injury reporting, recording and investigation processes and information.
• Ensure employee participation in health and safety.
• Ensure monitoring systems are implemented and maintained.
• Implement and monitor HSE behavioural observations process (WeCare) and regularly review HSE systems in operation.
• Implement, lead and maintain regular audits and reviews of HSE practices and procedures.
* Coaching and Support
• Provide leadership and support in HSE across BGML.
• Provide timely HSE information and advice as required.
• Ensure understanding of HSE requirements.
• Conduct appropriate training and induction.
• Respond to current HSE issues and develop necessary interventions.
* Contractors & Subcontractors
• Monitor subcontractor HSE management systems and contract requirements.
• Undertake subcontractor HSE audits to ensure site safety.
* Compliance
• Ensure 100% compliance to all legal audits.
• Develop action plans to address shortfalls from legacy issues.
• Ensure that HSE committee meetings are held quarterly.
• Ensure that Health and Safety representatives are involved in serious injury and high potential incident investigations.
* Team Leadership
• Ensure that team members meet their performance objectives
• Conduct performance reviews
• Ensure that team members have development plans

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Requirements:

• Relevant Tertiary qualification
• Post graduate studies in relevant field of risk management will be an added advantage

Experience Requirements:

• 7 – 10 years’ experience leading risk management functions in complex environments
• Experience in the mining industry.
